Our God is Strong and Mighty

Scripture:

Psalm 24:8-10 “Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah.”

Observation:

This Psalm was likely written as David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.  The ark represented the presence of God.  Under David’s predecessor, Saul, the ark had lost its’ consciousness amongst the people.  Saul ruled for himself, but David wanted God to be front and center. David let everyone know that God was back in the saddle in Israel (He never left, they left Him) so he penned this Psalm for the people to sing.  The Psalm is about the “King of Glory”.  The King of Glory who transcends heavens and earth. Who is this King of Glory? He is the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle! He is Lord of hosts (all the angelic host) and earth and its’ fulness is His.  Our word for 2021 is “Strong”.  Our strength begins with His strength! David had the strength to take on Goliath because he first found strength in a strong God who rules over everything we see and can’t see.  If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)

Application:

David’s deep confidence in this King of Glory likely came in moments as a shepherd while star gazing out in the wilderness, meditating upon God’s Word, beholding the wonder of life and uniqueness of all living things and then watching God in action.  David viewed all things in life in perspective of the
King of Glory”.  David spent time to worship the King of Glory, to know the King of Glory, and to make the King of Glory known.

Our God is strong and mighty, mighty to fight our battles, whether we believe that or not.  God is God period! Nothing changes His greatness or glory. But you can change your worry, fears, and self- protection when you meditate upon His greatness and remember how He has worked in your life and life of others.  Who is this King of Glory? It is none of other than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Have you opened your heart to Him so that He can come in?

Request:

Dear Lord Jesus, who is the King of Glory? You are! I worship You as King of the universe and ask that You fill me with thoughts of Your greatness throughout every day. May Your strength be my strength for every task and assignment. Amen
